Should you migrate from PowerGrade to the new, web based grade book in PowerTeacher?

We think the new web based system is going to be a vast improvement over PowerGrade. That doesn't mean it will be better in every respect; below, we've listed pluses and minuses we've come up with for you to consider. I'm sure both sides of the ledger will change as we learn more about how the system functions. And, because we can't really test it under real battle conditions, we're pretty sure issues we haven't considered will arise. That said, we still think this will be a welcome change. Read below to see if you agree it's right for you.

IMPORTANT: To switch from PowerGrade to PowerTeacher Gradebook mid-year, the change must come at the beginning of a new trimester before any grades for that trimester have been entered into PowerGrade. You must also complete this contract stipulating you are aware of the plusses and minuses outlined on this page. FAX the completed, signed contract to us at 760-735-2579.

FAQs

  1. Can I go back to PowerGrade if I decide PowerTeacher is not for me? No, once the change has been made, it can't be undone.
  2. Can I use my computer at home to enter my grades, or do I have to use a school computer? You can use any computer you wish so long as it is connected to the Internet.
  3. Can I use the reports I made in PowerGrade when I move to PowerTeacher? No, PowerTeacher comes with seven reports where you have some control over output, but you can't use old PowerGrade reports (the seven included should cover most if not all of what you've been doing).
  4. What if I have backup problems like I had with PowerGrade? There is no backup. When you save grades, they are saved directly into PowerSchool. If you desire a backup, you can export your Scoresheet so it can be opened in Excel or other spreadsheet software.
  5. Can I use my own custom gradescales like I did in PowerGrade? No, you must use the gradescale assigned by the school to the course and section being taught.
