School Facilities Program Modernization Projects The
State School Facilities Program provides funding for modernization
of school facilities that are at least twenty-five years old. Under
the program, the state funds 80% of the eligible construction with
the district providing the remaining 20% of the funding.
Currently
modernization projects are underway at both Felicita Elementary
School and Juniper Elementary School. These sites qualified for
state funding under the Lease-Purchase Program and when SB50 went
into effect, they were converted to the current State School Facilities
Program. The modernization projects at these two schools have received
80% funding through the state program with the remaining 20% to
be funded by the district. Funding amounts are shown below:

Under
the current State School Facilities Program, the district has eligibility
for the modernization of ten additional schools. Similar to new construction
funding, the State program does not have sufficient money to fund
these projects. The school sites eligible for modernization under
the State School Facilities Program are: |

The
architect plans for all ten of the above mentioned modernization projects
have been submitted to and approved by the Division of State Architect.
Construction funding applications have been submitted to the State
Allocation Board and are now waiting on an unfunded list with the
hope that more money will become available at the state level through
a statewide school facilities bond. These modernizations, once funded,
will be based on the 80% state contribution and 20% district contribution.
$3.4 million from the Proposition K bond that passed on the March
2002 ballot will cover the required 20% district contribution. The
table below shows the breakdown of the district and state contribution
as well as the total construction funding for each of the ten eligible
schools:
