iPhoto is a simple tool for collecting and sharing photos which allows you to:

Import photos (jpeg or tiff or raw) in several different ways
Organize them into groups (called Albums), sorting a variety of different ways
Edit - very simple editing (but not very powerful)
Share photos by email, exporting, making slideshow or books

Pictures stored in iPhoto can be easily accessed from Keynote, iMovie, iWeb, Pages, Numbers, and Comic Life.
