iCal requires OS 10.2.3 or newer. The district has a license for OS 10.4

iCal is a personal calendar application. iCal lets you keep track of your appointments and events with multiple calendars featuring views of upcoming activities by day, week or month.
iCal lets you create separate color-coded calendars for your home, school and work schedules, and it lets you view all your different calendars at the same time from within a single unified window.
Publishing and Subscribing to Calendars
Publishing calendars on the Internet requires a .Mac membership or access to a WebDAV server. You can choose to publish one or more of your color-coded calendars, but on the web they are all one color. As an iCal user, you can subscribe to calendars posted on the Internet and there are tons of published calendars. In doing this each time someone updates their posted calendar, the changes are updated on your calendar file locally.
Calendars can also be subscribed to, created, and published using Sunbird from Mozilla (MacOSX, Windows, Linux). this would be useful for Admin to be able to post calendars for teachers. This open source software is a bit clunkier.

For example, here are a couple of calendars that the district and schools have started creating:

If you use iCal (or Sunbird), you can subscribe to a calendar. Subscribing w/ Sunbird is a little different (see directions above).
CHANGES FOR 2007-2008
The calendars have a new home. They have been moved from .Mac accounts to the district Calendar Server which can be accessed from this webpage. Not all of the calendars are listed there yet - we will keep adding.
NOTE: if you previously subscribed to a calendar posted on .Mac, it will not be updated. You need to delete that subscription and get the new ones at the page above.

Another great use is as scheduler - teachers at Central school email Mr. B to make changes to their weekly lab schedule. All teachers can see the schedule on the web. Another example of that is with Farr's Master Calendar (above) - teachers who are trying to book time have the calendar on their desktop and email the secretary for appointments. Mrs. C has a monthly calendar that is published from her .Mac account - parents can subscribe and know what's going on! Mr. L also has a Class Projects/Events calendar. Another example of sharing calendars: Iowa State University
Here are calendars from iCalShare w/th possible school value - email me with suggestions.
