- What if I forget my password? So
long as you earlier added your email address to your Settings
section of the Admin module, just click on
the Reset Your Password link at the sign-in
screen. Within 5 minutes or so, a new, random 4 digit password
will be sent to you. When you log in with that, you can give
yourself a personal password (6 characters or more; write it
down). If you haven't earlier added your email address, see
your TRT to reset it and then make sure you right away add your
email address for the future.
- Where do I find the Edusoft Benchmark Assessments? Benchmarks that came from a publisher (e.g. Houghton Mifflin) were included with the publisher materials you received. It is the intention to eventually have all Benchmark Assessments available as a PDF download in Edusoft so that you could download a copy of the assessment along with the answer sheet. Also, the district has provided schools with an order form so that all of the test materials can be ordered through Publications. Sites can order copies of all Benchmarks from the Print Shop using the the new form created this year for that purpose.
- How do I get answer sheets for Language Arts students who aren't in my homeroom class? Elementary schools can set now up periods through their Attendance clerk - similar to how middle schools list different classrooms that students move to throughout the day. This is a school-based setup process. Once the "periods" are in Attendance and submitted to the district office, it takes about two weeks to upload to Edusoft. You can get the "form" to create a period here (Word or PDF).
- If a test has a two page answer sheet, can a teacher xerox the two sides onto a single piece of paper, front and back? Will it scan okay? Edusoft says that this could potentially create read errors in the grading process. So they recommend against it.
- What do I do if I have a new student who is not listed on my answer sheet?
- Student transferred in from another class at my site: Under the ADMIN Tab, choose Rosters. From there you can add the student to your class temporarily. The student's name will now show up on the Answer Sheet. After the next SASI update (~ two weeks) the change will be permanent.
- Student transferred in from another school or new to district:
Have the student take the test. On the top he/she should write his/her first and last name and lunch number. The test will scan, but you will get an "unresolved" notice.
Edusoft will not be able to find the student until the next SASI update (currently, SASI info is sent to Edusoft twice a month and takes about a week to process - to check to see the most recent update, go to the Admin tab and click Rosters.). The answer sheets can be resolved later when SASI has updated and the student is in the Edusoft. To resolve it, click on the Admin tab and then Grading. Change setting to match student in question. You may wish to select "View unresolved only." Click View. Click on the one you want, scroll to the bottom and click on "View Image." Click on "Click here to look up the correct student." Find the correct student (you can choose from the list or do a search by name or lunch number at the bottom of the screen) and then Continue.
- Why do the long-answer answer sheets go up to 100 when what I'm testing is only worth 15 points? In Edusoft, you can assign the exact number of points to a question on an answer sheet if that number is a single digit. If the number of points is a two digit number, you're given the choices all the way up to 100. You have to bubble in the correct combination to equal the score that was earned.
- Where do I enter my DRA levels in Edusoft? Scores for the optional DRA can be placed in Edusoft under the "Developmental Reading Assessment (optional)" folder. An answer sheet is provided for beginning of the year, trimester one, trimester two, and trimester three.
- For the HM summative assessments there is an answer block for the writing application part of the test, but we aren't supposed to administer that. Will leaving it blank effect the overall outcome? For 2005-06, the "Writing Applications" section of the HM Summative tests has been removed from the answer sheet and the assessment. It may be given optionally by any teacher xeroxing from teacher materials.
- Some Math questions are short answer questions with 3 or 4 points possible. How do I handle that kind of question? If the student missed the short answer question, the teacher should bubble in the box beside the question number on the answer sheet. If the student got the question correct, the teacher does nothing.
- What different reports can I generate with Edusoft? Click here for a PDF (3 MB) that gives samples of 11 different reports that can be made in Edusoft, along with a description of what buttons to push to generate a report for your class that matches the sample reports.
- What report should I generate for my collegial conversation with my principal? For an example of a powerful and easy to make report, try report #6 - Class List Report. It is not mandated, simply a possibility.
- How do I generate an Item Analysis report so that I can find out which questions or standards my students are having the most difficulty with?
- In Edusoft, choose Benchmarks.
- Choose Item Analysis
- Choose the test you want the information for.
- Select the periods you desire.
- Experiment with the "Group By" pull down menu.
- For a definition of "P-Value" see "What Do These Terms Mean"
- How do I grade short or long answer questions in Edusoft? What do I bubble in? An Edusoft answer sheet has three types of questions, multiple choice, short answer and long answer:
- a multiple choice question on the answer sheet is pretty obvious. The student has a choice of usually four answers A, B, C, or D. Edusoft will automatically "grade" the multiple choice answers when the answer sheet is scanned in.
- a short answer question has only one answer, and it is either right or wrong. If it is wrong, the teacher needs to bubble in the little dotted square beside the question number on the answer sheet. If the answer is right, the teacher does nothing.
- a long answer question has more than one part or answer and is worth more than one point. If a question is worth, say, three points, the answer space will have a "bubble-in" for a 3, 2 ,1, and 0. If the student earns three points for their answer, the teacher would bubble in the 3. If the student earned only one point for their response, the teacher would bubble in the 1. If a long answer question has more than 9 points you bubble in the points earned. For a detailed explanation of how to score this kind of question, click here.
- How do I create practice materials for my students based on how they did on a benchmark test?
- You can create customized practice materials for individual students or your entire class using the Benchmarks Exams "Instructional Tool." Handout.
- You can use reports (especially the Class Summary Report & the Item Analysis Report ) to analyze student results. You can then use Teacher Tools "Assessments" to create a test with a scanable bubble sheet. Handout.

- How do I stop all of the junk email I keep getting?
- One way to help avoid Spam or junk mail is to create a filter that finds and does something to email that you suspect is Spam. Handout.
- Another TIP - don't use your district to sign up for things on the Internet. These places often share that email address with other companies that then send you spam.
- When I checked my email this a.m., I noticed I had a lot of emails that said things like "Mail Delivery Subsystem: Your email failed to deliver." I deleted several of these already but then I got concerned because I didn't send anyone any emails. In fact they were addressed to people I've never heard of. Is this just spam email or do you think someone is using my email address?
- What is probably happening is your email address is being "spoofed" - meaning someone (or some computer) has obtained or randomly generated your email address and is spamming tons of other email addresses using yours. Some of those emails that are sent out are blocked by the recipient's email service provider (or the email addresses no longer exist) and so the email "bounces" and comes back to you as a "failed to deliver." You can delete the emails. If you have a lot of them, you can create a email rule to collect them. More info about spoofing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spoofing
- I am having trouble checking my GroupWise email with AOL. AOL
users may have trouble viewing the GroupWise WebAccess. The
problem is with the proprietary browser included with the AOL

- Groupwise: Using a Shared Address Book (handout)
If you receive a message (probably from someone in your school office) with a subject like "Sharing of Address Book" it means that someone has sent you a collection of email addresses - very powerful. The handout explains how to accept and use them.
- Groupwise: Editing out mistakes in Autofill (handout)
Are you having a problem because the autofill in Groupwise email keeps finding your keyboarding mistakes?
In the example below, at some time, I typed an email address with and extra r at the end. That email address gets saved and then autofills when I type in the beginning of her address. When I send her that email, Groupwise then “bounces” it back.
To fix this:
1. Go to your Address Book.
2. Choose your Frequent Contacts Address Book. Click Search.
3. Find the mistyped addresses, put a check mark in front, and click delete.
- I am having trouble seeing all of the text and menu choices. You may have experienced some issues with the new GroupWise 7 Webmail not displaying properly on your school/home computers. We discovered that it is not displaying properly in some of the out-of-date browsers. Past upgrades have never been a problem, but this one has more sophisticated features that the older browsers have trouble handling.
Fortunately, there IS a fix for each of the possible operating systems we have in place.
At the bottom of this e-mail, we have listed the solutions for the different operating systems. This information has been sent to your School Computer Technicians and Technology Resource Teachers, but they may not have had time to get the word out to you and are going to need a bit of time to help you install the proper browsers on your machines (or install them for you).
In the interim, we were able to set up a display page that detects when you are using an older, unsupported browser and redirects you to a very "plain vanilla" version of GroupWise, so that you can at least see the menus properly. It's certainly not very pretty, but it will function until you can get the correct browser on your school/home machine. We'll leave it up through the holiday break and the first week of next year to give people time to install what is needed.
Also, note, we are told that Windows computers have difficulty displaying the webpage properly if the resolution isn't set high enough. A 1068 x 768 resolution works better than an 800 x 600 setting. This would probably be true for Macs as well.
Here are the solutions should you feel comfortable installing the necessary browser yourself or need the information for your home machine:
Mac OS 9.2.2
-- Will NOT properly work with Internet Explorer 5.2.2 (last updated version for the Macintosh; unfortunately the one on our current images)
-- WILL somewhat work with Internet Explorer 5.1.7 (This version has been posted in the public folder/software folder on the 10.15.8.94 server. This can only be accessed while you are at school). The logout button will still be "jumbled," but people can just quit the browser to log out. There are some other jumbled places.
-- WILL work with Netscape (This also has been posted in the public folder/software folder on the 10.15.8.94 server. This can only be accessed while you are at school). This appears to work the best for 9.2.2....may be the best long-term solution.
This change, if necessary, only needs to be on the machines a teacher would use to check email. It doesn't need to be on every machine.

Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar)
-- Will NOT properly work with Safari or I.E.

- How do I add a table? iWeb doesn't provide for this. One workaround is to create your table info in Excel. Then copy and paste the contents of the table into iWeb. It creates a table where where columns and contents can be modified. You can even make the column lines not show. If trying to copy a table from Word, first copy the contents into Excel, then copy it from Excel to iWeb. The table is NOT easily editable.
