Mathematics
The mathematics content for each grade is guided by the California Mathematics Standards.
The district standards must at least meet the state standards although they can
be set at higher standards
than the state.
Nationally, the mathematics standards prepared by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) offer additional guides to what, when, and how mathematics should be taught.

- California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
Beginning in 2005-06, every California public high school student must pass
an exit exam in order to receive a high school diploma.
The mathematics part of the CAHSEE addresses state standards in grades 6 and 7
and Algebra I. The exam includes statistics, data analysis and probability,
number sense, measurement and geometry, mathematical reasoning, and algebra.
Students are also asked to demonstrate a strong foundation in computation and
arithmetic, including working with decimals, fractions, and percents.
