The following directions are provided in order to prepare for the

Department Collegial Data Conferences.

There are two sets of directions:

I.      How to determine performance bands

Within these directions is information on

        a. data on subpopulations

        b. calculating “% = proficient and above” for questions groups

II.     How to determine the performance band for each student

Within these directions is information on

        a. rank order of question difficulty

        b. rank order of question difficulty with each “question group”

I.      Performance Bands

These are the same as “Groups”:

Intensive                          = Far Below Basic

Strategic                         = Basic

Benchmark                     = At                             also = Proficient

        Advanced/Challenge     = Above

These groups are identified based on their % correct on the Trimester Benchmark Exams.  When the report asks for “% = Proficient or Above”, look for “At” and “Above” in the reports, below.  To be useful, the “cut points” need to be identified.  These are the “grading scale”, or the % correct that matches each group.

To determine the Cut Points:

(this report will also show the “question groups” and how to calculate “% = Proficient or Above”)

In EduSoft:

1. Login

2. > Benchmark Exams

3. > Reports

4. > Performance Band Reports

5. > Select Assessment; click “Continue”, below

6. > complete screen as shown:

                 All Students (entire group)

                 question group

show number of students in each band

> click “CONTINUE”, below

7. > select “Ed Programs:”

> you will see the list shown below from which you can select ELs, EOs, etc.

The numbers in parenthesis are the # of students in your class who fall into each category.  This is a list from my “Advanced Math 6” class.  Regardless of not having students in some categories, I highlighted some of interest for you.

ELs; EOs; GATE; Socio-economically  Disadvantaged

> click “CONTINUE”, below; twice

8. You will get a PDF like the one below.

You will have to do the indicated calculation (addition) to get the

     “% = Proficient or Above”

9. The “cut points” for the performance bands are listed and are useful when you have your list of students (see “Performance Bands for each student” below)

There were 23 questions on the Advanced Math 6 Trimester 1 Benchmark.

Far Below (Intensive) =                     0 to 11

Basic (Strategic) =                            12 to 16 correct

At (Benchmark) =                              17 to 20 correct

Above (Above/Challenge) =            21 to 23 correct

II.     Performance Bands for each student

In EduSoft:

1.         Login

2.         > Benchmark Exams

3.         > Item Analysis

4.         > Item Response Report

5.         > select assessment and click “CONTINUE”, below

6.         > Create one report for:   [All Students (entire group)]

> Sort the report by:  (Overall Performance)

> Sort questions by:  (Grouped By Question Group)

7.         > Choose “All”; click “CONTINUE”, below

8.         > select “Spreadsheet”

9.         > open with a spreadsheet program (probably Excel)

This is a portion of the spreadsheet that will be constructed.

I added the color to be consistent with the performance bands, above.

From this, you can see each student’s overall performance band.

The question groups will be across the top.  You can determine the level of difficulty for each question in each group.
