MENSAJE DEL DIRECTOR

Dear Mission Community,

Welcome to another holiday season and thank you for continuing to support our school and students. This year has been filled with many memorable and exciting events.  Our 6th grade students recently took a field trip to the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art to view “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs” exhibit.  Many students, parents, and staff had a wonderful time and enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience. Our 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to attend an assembly sponsored by the “Playwrights Project”.  They enjoyed a fun and thought provoking performance put on by professional actors.  We also had our first “Talent Showcase” where students showcased their various talents in the area of fine arts.

As you know we are always working on improving our educational program and surrounding community.  On this note the City of Escondido has begun the construction of “Grove Park” on the corner of Ash and Mission Ave. This park will be completed by October 2006 and our students will have a variety of opportunities to participate in the construction and design of this important addition to our community.  The school also recently received a new golf cart to help with student supervision and campus safety.

As we move into the holiday season and enter a new year we look forward to seeing you involved on campus and supporting your students.  Together we can continue to provide an enriching academic program and improve our school and surrounding community.  Take care and enjoy the holidays.

Sincerely,

Randolph Garcia

As we strive to create and maintain “a culture of achievement” at Mission Middle School, we are mindful of the fact that we are training young people to make positive contributions to their family, community, nation, and world as they take on a fulltime job in the next six to ten years.

In order to develop work habits that will help our students in the workplace that awaits them we stress with them that Mission is their current workplace and they need to develop and maintain the skills and attitude that would be the same no matter where they decided to make a living. Even though they are not earning money while working at Mission they should be striving for good grades and good citizenship that will one day translate to a rewarding career of their choice.

If students truly believe, as the staff at Mission does, that the job of a student operates under the same criteria as a job in the outside world then it is easy to understand why we stress the following on a daily basis:

1.  You cannot bully or intimidate other employees at work therefore, you are not allowed to do that at Mission.

2.  You cannot go around holding another employee's hand or kissing them at work therefore, it is not allowed at Mission.

3.  You need to follow directions at work the first time given without displaying a negative attitude therefore we expect the same behavior at Mission.

4.  You have to do your assigned work everyday to the best of your ability therefore we  expect the same behavior at Mission.

 5.  You need to come to work everyday on time and dressed appropriately therefore we  expect the same punctuality and appropriate attire at Mission.

 6.  If you miss days of work, you need to have a valid excuse. Taking off for Mexico or going to see relatives while your employer depends upon you being at work is unacceptable. We expect Mission students to be in attendance everyday of the school year.

 7.  If you want to keep your job you would not even think of talking back to your employer.  We expect the same respect for all adult supervisors at Mission.

 8.  You would not litter or tag your place of employment. You would take pride in keeping you place of employment clean and safe. We expect the same respectful appreciation of the Mission campus.

 9.  You would not even think about bringing drugs or weapons to work. We believe our  students should feel the same about not bringing these items to Mission.

10.  You would never hit another employee in order to solve a disagreement or react to a  rumor. We expect Mission students to solve disagreements and deal with rumors in a mature nonviolent manner.

 11.  You would never try to act like a member of a gang in a job that serves the public good such as a firefighter, police officer, teacher, doctor, or lawyer. We expect Mission students to also model the example of a law abiding positive member of society.

We need your help at home and in the community this year to reinforce the positive habits we are trying to instill in your children so that they can one day “cash in” their good grades and citizenship for a valued place in society.

Lisa Hollander

7th & 8th Grade

Greetings and welcome to the 2005-2006 school year. My name is Lisa Hollander and I have the honor of being assigned to Mission Middle School as one of your assistant principals. I have great expectations for the upcoming school year. Before I share those with you I would like to give you a quick background to my life in education.

I am beginning my thirteenth year in education. I was a first, second, and fourth grade teacher in the Los Angeles area before following my family’s migration to San Diego County. I taught in Escondido at Lincoln Elementary School for seven years in grades three, four, and five. Many of those students then went on to Mission for their middle school years. I obtained my administrative credential and for the last two years I have been an assistant principal at Felicita.

I expect that every student at Mission will work to his or her greatest potential. Schools should be a place where students feel safe, wanted, and respected. I will do everything within my power to provide him or her with this so they may achieve academic and social successes.

Every member of the Mission staff, student population, and related families had been warm, friendly, and helpful to me. I look forward to supporting all of you in any way possible to develop your child into the best person he or she can be! My door is always open so stop on by. J
