Mission Statement . . . The purpose of our school is to provide a well-rounded education in a safe, child-centered environment. Parents, teachers, students, and our community share this responsibility. Students at Conway will attain high levels of academic achievement, develop strong, positive self-image, and become contributing members of society. We accept the charge to teach all students and to strive continually for excellence.

School Discipline Practices . . . The learning environment and the schoolwide discipline plan at Conway School focus on building responsibility in our children by "catching kids being good." High expectations for behavior are supported in the classroom as well as during lunch, passing periods or recess, and before and after school. The site administrator and teachers are clearly visible throughout the day, and students have a sense of safety and security. The Positive Action curriculum focuses on building character as well as drug and violence prevention.
Inappropriate behavior is not allowed to interrupt instruction and student learning. Consequences are predictable and consistent. Conway's academic and behavior standards are posted in every classroom. These standards and rules are also included in the school handbook for parents and students to read. The handbook is revised each year and is distributed at the beginning of the school year to all students. Reminders about various rules are announced through¬out the year, during our daily morning assemblies, and as needed.
Appropriate behavior is recognized through "Caught Being Good" drawings, trimester awards assemblies, reward luncheons with the principal, and individual teacher recognitions and rewards. Annual Perfect Attendance and No Tardy awards are given at the end of the year. Students are also recognized for academic achievement and their service to the school. Students participate in many reading incentive programs. Classroom rewards include pizza parties, trophies, and other incentives throughout the year.
